Golf Handicap is affected by Index and Slope and Rating

transparent gif

This page will allow you to see how your handicap index is affected by the slope and rating for a particular course. To keep this simple, we assume that you have entered 10 rounds of golf for the same golf course. The scores are 92,94,96,98,99,100,102,104,106,107.

Enter a slope and rating combination to see your handicap index calculations:
Course Rating: (like 71.7)
Course Slope: (must be between 55 and 150)

If you increase the slope rating for the course, your handicap index will decrease. If the course you play has a course slope rating which is not correctly determined, you could be taking a higher handicap index than you should take with you. If the course has a slope rating of 115 when it should be 125, then you would be using a handicap index of 26.4 rather than a handicap index of 24.4. If a golf club wants to have it's home players do well in handicap tournaments at other courses, then all it needs to do is change the slope rating on the score card to be lower than it should be if properly determined.
